Trick or Treat

Dear Baby Bird,
Happy Halloween! You were so cute today in your ninja costume. We bundled up to head out for photos.

You and brother on the porch. The first of many years of photos, I'm sure.

We are so lucky to live in a neighborhood with lots and lots of kids and families.  Here are some of them before the trick-or-treating started. You stayed home with Dad to hand out candy while Brother and I went around the block. It was cold!

Pumpkin Carving

Dear Baby Bird,
Today we carved a jack-o-lantern. You supervised while Dad and Brother did the work.
"You want me to put my hand in there??"
You enjoyed watching, and cuddling with (aka chewing on) the teddy bear.
Love,
Mom

Captive Audience

Dear Baby Bird,

Brother loves to entertain you, and you LOVE to watch him! He reads books to you, and puts on music concerts.

Today was beautiful outside, so you played in the Jumperoo while I raked the leaves.

Love,
Mom

Cozy Nook

Dear Baby Bird,

I had so much fun
at the pumpkin farm.
I didn't want to sit on the
 hay.

I'm so happy
that I got to take a picture on dad's camera.

Regular Everyday Life

Dear Baby Bird,

I know that I'll write about the special times, the gatherings when we take lots of photos, the "firsts." But a lot of your life is... well, just regular everyday life.  So I'm going to try to write about that, too.

You wake up between 5 and 6 to eat, then go back to sleep for an hour or so. You wake up happy and ready for a clean diaper and time to play and smile.

After Brother gets on the bus, you are ready to eat again, then we head out to the gym or to run errands.

Within an hour or so you fall back asleep. Sometimes you sleep soundly for a few hours (especially if you are in your carseat!). Sometimes you wake up and want to cuddle. And sometimes you cry in your sleep.

You eat again before lunch, and stay awake to play while I eat. You really like to have your head "up" so the Bumbo is a good thing, although you only last a short while before wanting to move to somewhere else.

Another nap, another feeding, and Brother gets home. Lately you've been staying away and playing, or just watching the world, during the late afternoon. After you eat, you doze off, and by 7:30 you are ready for bed.

In between those eating and sleeping times, we get smiles, bright eyes, fun sounds, and lots of love.
While it may not seem exciting, and I may forget to write about it, the everyday regular life is really very special and wonderful.

Love,
Mom

Three Months Old

Dear Baby Bird,

Things you like:
Grabbing things (toys, blankets) and bringing them to your mouth to chew
Sleeping! You sleep from 10pm to 6 am most nights
Holding your head up
Burrowing your head down into someone's chest, and pulling your hands up by your face to sleep
Smiling at your brother (and maybe the rest of us!)
Swatting at toys hanging above you
Bathtime

Things you don't like:
Being expected to fall asleep in your crib during the day
Spitting up, but you are starting to do it a bit more

Love,
Mom

A busy fall weekend!

Dear Baby Bird,

Yesterday we took you to your first Brewers game. You slept in the Bjorn through most of the game... the only time you even cried was during a song, I think because it was too quiet all of a sudden.

Today, Brother didn't have school, and it was beautiful outside, so we met Grandma and Grandpa at Holy Hill to see the leaves, then went to get pumpkins.

Your first time in the pumpkin patch!

The fall is one of my favorite times, and I'm so glad to get to start sharing my favorite traditions with you.

Love,
Mom
