Halloween Monkey

Dear Baby Bird,

Happy Halloween!

We spent Halloween trick-or-treating at Aunt Karina & Uncle Jake's house in Des Moines, IA.

Ryan Braun & a Little Monkey were quite a site to the local Iowans.

Occasionally, the little monkey in us all likes to nibble on candy:  I found you eating chocolate from the candy bowl for breakfast this morning.  Sneaky little monkey!

Corn Combine

Dear Baby Bird,

In the morning, we headed down to the Fischer Farm to ride the combine.  We had to walk through the plowed field to find the combine & cart.  Even the plowed field was quite an obstacle to hurdle for you.

Brother had his turn riding in the combine helping Arden fill the cart.  Then, Daddy & Brother rode together in the combine for a few more rows.  Lastly, it was your turn to hop inside and check out the cabin.

Farming corn in Iowa has been in the Fischer-Heiserman-Hoth family for 180 years!  Still today, there is hardly a farm in Delaware, Clayton, or Dubuque Counties that isn't a descendant of your German immigrant ancestors.

In fact, Grandma and Grandpa grew up on farms nearby.  They take pride in the traditions of farm life.

The next few days, you kept insisting... "ride combine 'gain?"  Someday soon...

Fischer Family Visit

Dear Baby Bird,

Last weekend, we took a journey to visit Mommy’s Fischer family in Manchester and Des Moines, Iowa.

We stopped on the way to Des Moines to stay with Arden and Dena Fischer.

 We enjoyed listening to their stories sitting by the fireplace!

Such wonderful hosts!  And the promise of riding Arden's corn combine harvester was so exciting.

Office Trick-or-Treat

Dear Baby Bird,

Today, my office held a trick-or-treat party for our kids.  It was your first chance this year to put on your costume.

You made a very good fire-fighter!

At the first stop, you took a long time digging through the bowl to see what the options were.

Brother had fun being a Brewer's player.

Dino-Domes

Dear Baby Bird,

Today we met your Godmother Nancy and Baby Andrew at the Domes. We didn't realize there would be Halloween decorations and dinosaurs everywhere, but that just made it even more fun to explore!

The Show Dome is decorated like The Wizard of Oz, so you posed for a few pictures over the rainbow.

Even with so many dinosaurs to look at, the big koi fish were still exciting to look at.

Jack-O-Lanterns

Dear Baby Bird,

Tonight we carved a pumpkin. You weren't so sure about the slimy insides at first.

 Luckily, you had Brother to show you how to do it.

 Then you really got the hang of it.

Fun Fall Weekend

Dear Baby Bird,

We did a lot of fun things this weekend, but you especially liked helping us rake leaves!

We had friends visit on Sunday and you spent time with Mrs. Jessica at the piano, showing her all of your favorite songs. Lucky for you, she could play the songs, and sing them with her beautiful voice!

Dear Baby Bird,

Pumpkin Patch

Dear Baby Bird,

Today was a beautiful day, so we went to the pumpkin patch.

 You liked picking out the pumpkins, but I think you liked driving the tractor even more!

Family Football

Dear Baby Bird,
Since everyone was in town for the wedding, we got to go see another cousin play football this morning.

He had a great game, and everyone like cheering for his team. You especially liked the big football helmet at the end of the field.

 It's pretty fun being the youngest cousin, you have so many friends and helpers wherever you go.

Princess Wedding

Dear Baby Bird,

Today your cousin got married. All week, you've been talking about seeing the "princess wedding" and finally the day arrived. And a princess she was! 

You were quite the handsome little man in your tuxedo, too.

We managed to sneak a family photo. You were laughing and Brother was showing off his missing teeth. Can't believe how much you two are growing!

You liked playing with your cousins and saying hi to the puppies.
